When I started Devon Transfers Private Hire, airport transfers quickly became one of the areas I wanted to concentrate on.

My previous aviation background certainly played a part, but I also found that these were journeys where preparation, experience and local knowledge could make a noticeable difference to the customer.

Exeter and Bristol soon became the airports I wanted to focus on and I genuinely believe that specialisation makes a difference to the overall experience customers receive.

Why Airport Transfers Benefit From Planning

From the outside, an airport transfer can sometimes look simple: pick someone up, drive to the airport and return later, but in reality, there’s often far more involved behind the scenes.

Particularly during busy holiday periods, airport journeys can involve:

  • motorway traffic

  • roadworks

  • changing flight schedules

  • late-night returns

  • early morning departures

  • airport drop-off systems

  • luggage considerations

  • travelling with children

  • and timing journeys carefully around check-in requirements

Even small delays or poor planning can quickly make airport travel stressful.

That’s one of the reasons I decided to focus heavily on these types of journeys.

Why Exeter & Bristol Airports Work So Well for Mid Devon

Being based in Willand means Exeter and Bristol Airports are the routes I know best.

By focusing on Exeter and Bristol Airport transfers, I’ve become very familiar with:

  • the regular traffic patterns

  • busy travel periods

  • motorway pinch points

  • airport layouts

  • drop-off procedures

  • pickup systems

  • and realistic journey timings from Mid Devon

That local experience often helps customers far more than they initially expect.

For example, people travelling from:

  • Willand

  • Cullompton

  • Tiverton

  • Uffculme

  • or surrounding villages

often have very different timing considerations depending on:

  • the airport

  • departure time

  • season

  • or day of the week

Those small details can make a big difference to how calm the journey feels overall.

Why I Don’t Try to Cover Every Airport

One decision I made fairly early on was not to try covering every airport across the country.

Instead, I chose to specialise in the airports I know best.

My background in aviation also helped shape this decision. After spending 20 years working within airports, airline operations and flight planning, focusing on airport transfers felt like a natural fit.

That specialist approach benefits customers in several ways.

Because Exeter and Bristol are the airports I regularly serve, I'm already familiar with the routes, airport procedures and many of the factors that can affect travel on the day.

For customers, that can mean:

✔ More realistic collection times

✔ Journey timings based on regular experience of the routes

✔ Familiar drop-off and collection arrangements

✔ Better awareness of busy travel periods

✔ A service built specifically around the airports I regularly serve

That's why Exeter and Bristol have become the main airports I serve. Rather than trying to be everywhere, I'd rather concentrate on the routes and airports I know particularly well.

That specialist approach is also one of the reasons many customers now return year after year for airport travel.

The Calm Starts Before the Journey

Good airport transport often starts long before the vehicle arrives.

For most customers, it's not simply about reaching the terminal. It's about knowing the journey has been properly planned, avoiding the hassle of airport parking and being able to start the holiday without worrying about the drive to the airport.

That's an important part of the service I've tried to build.
